My interest in biological sciences started at a young age, asking myself how nature works. Among the various degrees related to Biology that were offered at the University of Murcia, I chose Biotechnology as it does not only study how nature works but also how to apply that knowledge for a specific use. My interests led me to the Department of Microbiology and Genetics, and my B:S. and M.S. theses projects were on the regulation of the two protein kinase C (PKC) orthologs in the fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe carried out under the supervision of Prof. José Cansado and Dr. Marisa Madrid in the area of Microbiology of the department. Currently, I am doing my PhD in the area of Genetics in the department, with as advisors Profs. Montserrat Elías Arnanz and Marta Fontes Bastos. My thesis focuses on the study of the evolutionary conservation of CarF and CarH, two major proteins involved in the perception of light in the bacteria Myxococcus xanthus.
